For the next few days, global leaders will gather in Stockholm to discuss the urgency of global water distribution at World Water Week. In this context, at AZULIK we are reminded of the central role that this resource plays for the citizens of our planet.

Within the human body, water comprises 73 percent of the brain and heart, similar to water’s proportion of the earth’s surface. Water is the essential element for cleansing and overall wellness, and at AZULIK we are blessed by both, the beauty of the sea and the abundance of our cenote.

We have made efforts to minimize our ecological footprint. Our villas eschew water-intensive showers in favor of artisanal tubs connected to the water supplied directly from this natural source. Through this kind of amenities, we invite our guests to rethink how we affect the ecosystems that we depend on. Therefore, luxury is redefined as the opportunity to immerse oneself in nature.

World Water Week is an opportunity to reflect on water as the foundation for prosperity, and the importance for everyone’s access to water. However, many marginalized communities are denied this basic resource in the face of rising inequality and increased levels of pollution. This is particularly true among those with little economic strength. Violence against water activists is tragically also on the rise.

At AZULIK we remain committed to respecting our natural surroundings. Through our various initiatives, we look for ways to minimize our impact and raise awareness for the environment. At the same time, we have vowed to preserve and support the indigenous cultures who have sustainably coexisted with nature for centuries.
