Roth Architecture, Overall Winner of 2019 SBID Design Awards

Uh May Residence, a private retreat in the middle of the Mayan jungle, took the top prize at one of the most prestigious global interior design awards.

Roth Architecture, the studio created by AZULIK’s founder Roth, was chosen as the Overall Winner of the 2019 SBID International Design Awards for its project Uh May Residence, a groundbreaking private retreat in the middle of the Mayan jungle.

Conceived to harmoniously blend in with the habitat that hosts it, Uh May Residence was selected for its organic design, innovative use of materials, and environmentally conscious architecture. Its concept and meticulous execution afforded the project the top recognition given by the Society of British and International Interior Design

“We owe this price to our people, the Mayan people, whose work makes all of this possible,” said Roth at the award ceremony in London, UK. “This award gives us confidence in that we are doing the right thing. This is for all of us. I’m very proud”.

The SBID Design Awards celebrate design excellence across a broad range of categories. Evaluated by leading industry experts, its mission is to choose the most inspiring projects for their technical content, aesthetic creativity and conscious approach to design. Thus, it has established itself as one of the world’s most prestigious design awards.

This year, the top winner was Uh May Residence, Roth’s private residence and one of the main features of the larger AZULIK Uh May. This 10-hectare property in the jungle of Tulum, Mexico, comprises a contemporary art museum, a jungle restaurant and new features soon to be unveiled.
