With the launch of SFER IK, the exhibition spaces in Tulum and Uh May, previously known as IK LAB, will transition into a multidisciplinary creative sphere, a museion: derived from the Ancient Greek, μουσεῖον, and from the Latin, museum, it translates in its original acceptation as the temple of the muses and denotes a site that offers contemplation and inspiration rather than a structure designed for the accumulation of objects. 

Rooted in the desire to renew our connection with nature and the essence of humanity, the launch of SFER IK is the result of an organic evolution of Roth’s commitment to the arts. Roth explains: “The recent first anniversary of our inaugural exhibition has given us the opportunity to reflect upon the advancement of our project and it is time to acknowledge the nascence of an intrinsically new concept which calls for a different name to more accurately reflect our essence and aspirations. We have witnessed how the unique way in which art, nature and the Mayan culture seamlessly coexist has a profound effect on those who visit, both from the local community and from afar. We now want to take this transformative experience to the next level by offering a holistic art experience operating as a gateway to reconnect with one’s innermost creative impulse.”

In addition to staging acclaimed exhibitions of some of the world’s finest visual artists, SFER IK will offer cutting edge artisanal workshops which link ancestral practices with avant-garde techniques and visionary design, as well as innovative artist residencies focusing on interdisciplinary projects which culminate in new ways of experiencing and creating art.

SFER IK’s next event will take place on September 5, 2019, and consist of a performance-based exhibition combined with a multidisciplinary workshop dedicated to the implementation of a durable solution for the recrudescence of seaweed in the Caribbean.
